Cold
04:37
|
|||
Cold gray dying underfoot
A piece of leftover abuse
Memorized passages of reputable prose
Finger-pointing holiday is
What we chose
And I’ve got you
Picture perfect flying high
Pure American resolve
Misguided instincts, closet thieves
Universal dissolve
And I’ve got you
The splendid splinter, the world in winter.
Getting colder, growing older
Heaven help us, the sky is burning.
Trees and buildings, the tide is turning.
A personal leap year. Some postcards
All the words you can find.
A beautiful journey, a silent night.
Leave your army boots behind.
And I’ve got you.

Rocking Chair
03:44
|
|||
The key to success in this long tragic mess
Is to remember where it all began
Along the same lines you should always take time
To get back there whenever you can
Love can pass by or can whither and die
As you try and you try to hold on
But if you just let it ride
And float side by side
The lovin’ just goes on and on
And I’m just sitting here
In my rocking chair
Oh, you lit up like the moon
You turned a cold winter’s night
Into a warm afternoon
Oh, I walk around in a haze
I try to fill up my days
Knowing I’m not the same
The more you confess to the sweet happiness
And wondering whether you’d stay
The memories fly, the images die
And you never would know what she’d say.
So love will hang on and the love will be strong
And the days will pass tenderly by
The stars and the moon will leave you in ruin
Or carry you all through the night.
And I’m just sitting here
In my rocking chair
Oh, you lit up like the moon
You turned a cold winter’s night
Into a warm afternoon
Oh, I walk around in a haze
I try to fill up my days
Knowing I’m not the same

Heavy Heart
03:00
|
|||
She’s got a house in Portland
Far away from me
At night she watches the stars
Shining on the sea
She listens to the radio
When she feels alone
On cold, clear nights she picks up stations
All the way from home
So tell her if you see her
Tell her once for me
That I never miss her
Or her company
And its heavy on my heart
And its heavy on my mind
So if you see her tell her that I’m fine.
We met in New York
On an autumn day
We fell in love all winter
Then fell apart in May
She drove to New England
And I just drove around
Tell her if you see her that she
Didn’t let me down.
And its heavy on my heart
And its heavy on my mind
So if you see her tell her that I’m fine.
So I’m pretending
As a year has now gone by
And I sit down by the river
Watching barges passing by
And its heavy on my heart
And its heavy on my mind
So if you see her tell her that I’m fine.

Take Me Home
05:30
|
|||
I’m harboring thoughts of a long time ago
Of a house on a hill surrounded by snow
A road where people forget where to go
And I’m letting myself kind of drift there
I’m telling you boy you’re just living a lie.
You’re crawling on nails and wondering why
You’re in desperate need of saying goodbye
And the bridge is closed for the winter.
The sky reminds me of driving.
The moonlight bright on the road
The words you were tenderly writing
Are falling out of the phone
The weight of the world that you carried
That pushed you right down to the dirt
The hand that I never could hold tight enough
And the balancing act of the earth
So take me home.
I feel so all alone.
It’s a work in progress, poetry.
A kind of opportunity.
A river etched in stone.
Come inside its all right.
Save yourself from the cold.
There’s just lights and colors and roadside attractions
And people who never grow old.
Come inside its all right. Come inside its all right.
Come inside its all right. Come inside its all right.
I’m telling you boy you’re a long way from home.
You’re stuck in the silence chilled to the bone
The house it creeks and the wind it still moans.
There’s a pleasant reminder of nothing
A pleasant reminder of nothing.
So take me home.
I feel so all alone.
It’s a work in progress, poetry.
A kind of opportunity.
A river etched in stone.

Six Years in June
04:34
|
|||
Could you have predicted
That you’d become addicted
To the ground under your feet
And the things that you don’t fix
You are doomed just to repeat
After all is said and done
It’s the same for everyone
It's been working so far
So don’t change a single thing
And the courtroom jester
Never could become the king.
Is there room enough for me
On your stormy sea?
Things get strange, people change
Are you mentally prepared?
Clever girl, seen the world
Got a taste for the fresh air
Climbed a mountain turned around
Made it all the way back down
When you’re through, maybe you
Will find me still waiting around
Salty air, stars everywhere
This is where I go
A perfect day was almost thrown away
Take me to the show
And despite the forecast
Its been raining here all day
And in spite of what you do
I think only of the things that you say
And is there room enough for me
On your stormy sea?
Things get strange, people change
Are you mentally prepared?
Clever girl, seen the world
Got a taste for the fresh air
Climbed a mountain turned around
Made it all the way back down
When you’re through, maybe you
Will find me still waiting around
Salty air, stars everywhere
This is where I go

Silent
06:06
|
|||
Silent
Silent in every way
Screaming
Screaming with nothing to say
I was
Walking alone on the highway
Somewhere
People are laughing outside.
I couldn’t wait ‘til the morning
So I ran away
I didn’t know what the moonlight
Would do to you
I stepped out of the house
And ran through the field
This isn’t what I expected
But I’m trying to make sense
Of it and I might
Reach out for you dear
Its such a long night
The hands on the clock
Are still moving
But a long time ago
Time seemed to stop
I can’t
I can’t remember this feeling
So I’m
Hoping that it won’t stop
Tie up your hair
And sit awhile
The sun’s fading fast
But its still warm
I can feel the breeze off the ocean
I can see the light in your eyes
I could grow old here
Slowly July dies
And everything seems clear

The Red Tornado
04:06
|
|||
Step inside the red tornado
Spin around the room
The factory is spewing someone’s doom
Little daisy Mae can’t find her only friend
Stories of the war
Have all come crashing to an end
Bottoms up and drink a toast
To Jesus of the rodeo
The sentimental favorite just threw up inside the patio
And I can feel the breeze of the ocean
Step inside the red tornado
Spin around the room
Something’s bound to happen to you soon
Someone knocked me off my bike and stole my golden ring
For war and hate we wait
But oh, ‘tis liberty we sing
Bottoms up and drink a toast
To Jesus of the rodeo
The sentimental favorite just threw up inside the patio
And I can feel the breeze of the ocean
The girl inside the painting
Stands forever waiting
What a lucky fool am I
And it’s always a long goodbye
Step inside the red tornado
Spin around the room
Tie your heart to the roof of the car and drive it to the moon
The airplane takes off but leaves the pilot on the ground
The passengers get sick just flying round and round and round and round
Bottoms up and drink a toast
To Jesus of the rodeo
The sentimental favorite just threw up inside the patio
And I can feel the breeze of the ocean
The girl inside the painting
Stands forever waiting
What a lucky fool am I
And it’s always a long goodbye

House On A Hill
03:47
|
|||
Alone on a hillside summer to summer.
Given to measuring thoughtless to wonder.
Quietly asking and listening to the sweet answer.
The stillness the echoes of not long ago
On a hillside where I sit staring at mountains.
Looking through memories stuck in molasses
Dressed like a long lost punch-line forgotten.
He never stops trying, he’s stuck in a burden
Yearning for laughter.
At last here’s the fallen and misunderstood.
He cleverly hides himself under his hood.
A cloud passes by, he hurries to find himself alone.
On a hillside a house in the distance.
A book full of names in disguises,
The sun slowly rises.
Given to measuring worry all in a hurry with tenderness waiting.
A train drifting past the apartments with Christmas lights flashing
and hanging from railings.
An urban oasis, a festive occasion.
A pair of black shoes. His best silver lining.
A hat made of napkins for a night of fine dining. With daughters of kings
And sons of movie stars.
Dancing till midnight and smoking the finest cigars.
The moon drifts away and hides itself under the ocean.
Your sandals are covered in dew. The blankets soaked through
And I’m sitting alone on a hillside waiting for you.
And I’m sitting alone on a hillside waiting for you.

Our Souls
04:04
|
|||
Stay with me, I think this could be
My amazing grace.
Sacred days scattering into
Outer space.
All I see
Are endless possibilities and
Love is cashing in
Play the game, in the end
Its just another day
Making plans, and using hands
To shape the clay
The question’s on the wall
And the answer’s on the bathroom stall
So take the time to see
They say our soul belong to someone else’s past
They say our soul belong to someone else’s past

You, Before
04:27
|
|||
I saw you before
I saw you in the pavement of yesterday
And I saw you before
You were all the rage
You were on the front page
Of everybody’s mind
Now you’re in the sky
You were in the woods
You were in the woods
Surrounded by everything you fear
You were in the woods
Well surprise surprise
You gave in to the lies
And now everybody knows
You are all alone
And we were through with this
So we gave proof to this
My love
And we were through with this
So we gave truth to this
My love
I saw you before
I saw you in the sunshine of yesterday
And now
You are all I see
And we were through with this
So we gave proof to this
My love
And we were through with this
So we gave truth to this
My love My love My love

Sleep
04:00
|
|||
Pillow talking
Sleep walking
All dressed up in blue
I was dancing
Through the streets of London.
I was standing next to you.
And I’m alright.
I’m only moving forward.
If that’s alright with you.
I’m just looking for myself, I wonder
Are you just looking for me too.
Fields of summer
Turning brown
Fallen angels
Upside down
Face to faceless
Arm in arm
Bitter ending
False alarm
And I’m alright.
I’m only what I am
I feel October coming in.
I’m on the outside
And I think I hear you calling
Calling out to let me in.
