The Traveling Skyline
04:36
|
|||
I write in the morning a cat on my lap
Stare out the window and think about that
There’s always tomorrow at the end of the day
I feel a bit tired but mostly ok
The traveling skyline this unpaid bill
My eyes are wide open and I’ve had my fill
This chrome reflection this open road
It's just my perception wherever I go
And it’s never over its the way that you feel
I ride a live wire in a slowly spinning wheel
In the midst of everything here we are
I left around sunrise from downtown Fort Wayne
I started to daydream my mind felt like rain
I write in the morning while the world is asleep
Watching the daybreak promises to keep
You must think I'm happy you lie by my side
One minute you’re here but never quite satisfied
And it’s never over its the way that you feel
I ride a live wire in a slowly spinning wheel
In the midst of everything here we are

Mosaic Gold
03:36
|
|||
Bring it back today bring it back tomorrow
We may go astray or settle in the afterglow
I feel like an eye I’ve been hearing storms again
Don’t say goodbye don’t take my oxygen
Stars around the beautiful moon
You were gone a little too soon
Come roaming in when I'm asleep
All of this and my soul to keep
Traveling at night stopping only for toast and tea
It’s all in black and white I can feel you reminding me
One more reckless day surrender to the silence
See the slow decay hear the echo widening
Where are you gone leaving me behind
Let’s not lose anymore time
This heart grows warmer as the days grow cold
Look beyond into mosaic gold
So take care I can’t believe I left you standing there
If and when I ever see your face again i might fly away
Stage dives and high kicks vitamins and minerals
Waiting for a quick fix in the cold peripherals
Where are you gone leaving me behind
Let’s not lose anymore time
This heart grows warmer as the days grow cold
Look beyond into mosaic gold

The Golden Goose
04:38
|
|||
I was down in the dumps
I turned all my gold into mischief
All my geese had bumps
And I was running the risk of
Having all my cake
Having all my bells start ringing
But that old mistake
The one that left my poor heart stinging
Pulled up a chair
Said I’m not finished with you
But if you want to know the truth
You could've had it all
You could've had the golden goose
Every curtain call every color you could introduce
Every Saturday night
Every summer every spring and fall
Every star in sight
Oh yes you could've had it all
I was running around
I was using up all my chances
Just a hand me down
Giving mischievous sideways glances
Sidling up
To every opportunity
In a paper cup
Awash with stupidity
And all these days
Battery acid and blacktop skid marks
But if you want to know the truth
You could've had it all
You could've had the golden goose
Every curtain call every color you could introduce
Every Saturday night
Every summer every spring and fall
Every star in sight
Oh yes could've had it all

Happy Living Here
03:22
|
|||
You’re driving up to Boston to visit your mom
She had a nasty fall but she’s doing alright
I’m heading to the country my guitar in the backseat
To play another show at that bar down on main street
The owner broke her ankle when she fell in a hole
And her house burned down and it's taken a toll
The waitress is the same one who’s there every time
She always seems annoyed by shes feeling just fine
They don’t pay me well but give me beer and some food
They're always very nice and tell me I'm good
I think I could be happy living here
Living on a farm smiling ear to ear
I’d practice Buddhist ways and I’d spend all my days
Dreaming of you
I wake up every morning to the same old routine
Wash my face, brush my teeth and run to the train
Everyone is staring into space or their phone
I’m surrounded by people but I feel all alone
Sometimes I read a book, sometimes I just think
About whatever comes to mind or invisible ink
A cop comes on and everyone stares
I wonder if he notices I wonder if he cares
The guy sitting next to me is listening to The White Stripes
Passing down below I see the tiny streets of Brooklyn Heights
I think I could be happy living here
Living in a brownstone drinking artisan beer
I’d get a library card and I’d work really hard while
Dreaming of you
I know I’m a dreamer that’s what they say
I was born this way and that’s how I’ll stay
I dream about the future I dream about the past
I dream about the moments that never really last
I dream about oceans I dream about land
I dream about rocks and I dream about sand
I dream about places that airplanes land
And I dream about you
I think I could be happy living here
Inside of my head because there’s no one living there
I’d turn off all the lights and I’d spend all my nights
Dreaming of you

Bee to the flower
Watching every hour
Feels like an old fashioned day
Your face in my mind
Every single time
It reminds me everything is ok
Screams and shouts
I think I’ll sit this one out
And watch the cars go by
Moth, flame
It looks like it might rain
I don’t know I’m just staring at the sky
Did you ever see a thing that you can’t explain
Like when the mail comes early or an empty train
I think about these things all the time
It makes me think I’m losing my mind
Hate destroys
And now Ireand’s sweet voice
Is gone way too soon
Fingers wag
Then we burn each other’s flag
And send rocket ships beyond the moon
Did you ever want to make it all go away
Find a river and wash all your cares away
I think about these things all the time
It makes me think I’m losing my mind
Flower to the bee
Falling on one knee
Begging her to stick around
I can’t deny
And i don’t even want to try
The runway will soon be out of ground
I’m telling you there’s no other way
We better earn to get along
There’s no plan B for another day
And I’m coming to the end of this song

Lights
05:03
|
|||
Some people want to live like they want to live
Some people want to give all they can give
Some people want to be what they’ve always been
Some people want to change then change again
We’re pulling strings in all directions
We’re disconnecting the connections
We’re doubling down on me and what is mine
We’re feeling lost and feeling fine
I hope the lights come on
I hope hope’s not gone
I hope the best in your brings out the best in me
This is not where I wanna be
Once upon a moonlit night
I told you things would be alright
Sometimes what I want to say
Begins to slowly fade away
A slow decay
A deal in the final hour
Sent me down this road
With a heart to reload
And a forest to devour
I hope the lights come on
I hope hope’s not gone
I hope the best in your brings out the best in me
Click the azure sky above a raging sea
We’ve all got choices to make
We’ve got each other anyway
I’ll stand by you no matter what goes down
As long as you want me around

Paradise Passing
05:09
|
|||
It’s cold for a night in June
There’s a haze over the city and you can’t find the moon
One star shining alone in the sky
Or maybe it’s Venus and she’s wondering why
I went to find fortune down at the shore
Everything seemed different but the same as before
I dreamed about Paris with you by my side
Just another day while paradise passes me by
The food isn’t great but that’s not why I’m here
I came for the music and the dancing and beer
The ashtrays are spotless cause nobody smokes
And no one tells stories and no one tells jokes
They sit and they wonder and sometimes they cry
Just another day while paradise passes them by
Eyes that look through me
And eyes that are lost
They came from the bridge that they all walked across
And history tells us it’s happened before
It’ll happen again and again and once more
All that has been and all that’s to come
Wherever you’re going and wherever you’re from
The dance of the devil the song of the saint
You show some compassion you show some restraint
The monkey in the middle the man on the moon
It’s a starless sky and a cold night in June
The poor and the broken the great and the brave
The ones most forgotten the ones who’ve been saved
They all reach for something they try and they try
Everyone watches paradise passing them by
It’s cold for a night in June
There’s a storm in the distance it’ll be here soon
Wait by the statue and we’ll say goodbye
Just another day as paradise passes us by

Me And My Life
04:01
|
|||
When I was young
I heard the earth revolved around the sun
That seemed strange so I asked everyone I knew
If they had heard that too
When I was ten
They said John Lennon died and
That was when I think that I first cried and
Every now and then it makes me cry again
I don't mean to make this all about me and my life
But that’s all I know
You say things that that are so elegant, tender and wise
And I just watch the snow
When I was nineteen
I took my first trip on a flying machine
As we rose I felt the change of pressure in my head
And thought I should have stayed in bed
I don’t suppose
That I have any idea
Where this goes
I only hope that I can hang around a while
I love to watch you smile

Snow Upon Snow
02:52
|
|||
I hear the sound of snow upon snow
I open my eyes and wonder where I should go
I’ve walked these streets more times than I know
And still I just keep walking
It had to be around here someplace
I thought of you in some other face
I talked to much about the meaning of grace
And I just kept on talking
She said don’t judge me
Don’t call me by names
I don’t play such undesirable games
I dance alone and I don’t stake any claims
So don’t suppose that you know me
I’ve been beside myself and traveled too much
God is everywhere on billboards and such
The sun is heavy burns the world with its touch
And it just keeps on shining
I’ve faked a whole lifetime and come up for air
I know there’s more to it but I lost it somewhere
The heavens once opened but no one was there
Magdelena proposed a solution
She said love is everywhere
I’ve seen it first hand
So don’t criticize what you can’t understand
Its written in circles by sticks in the sand
You might want to pay close attention
I’ve been beside myself and traveled too much
God is everywhere on billboards and such
The sun is heavy burns the world with its touch
And it just keeps on shining

What Woud You Do?
04:55
|
|||
What would you do if you were me
What would you decide what would you believe
Would you hold on tight to what you know
Or would you close your eyes and just let go
Would you stay close to shore or sail to sea
Would you hit the highway to feel free
Would you embrace reason or poetry
What would you do if you were me
What would you say if you were here
Would all your words be loud and clear
And if I questioned the things you’d day
Would you just laugh and walk away
Could we drive around and talk some more
Would you walk me through that open door
Would you say I’m crazy but calm my fears
What would you say if you were here
Take me in and pull me under
Force my hand and make me wonder why I should even try to walk away
What would you think of who I am
Without a story or a plan
Without the time I always had
Without a smile when things got bad
If it turns out that I can’t change
Would you think that’s very strange
Or would you even give a damn
What would you think of who I am
How would you suggest that I proceed
By taking only what I need
By taking moments one by one
Living each completely until they’re done
Living each completely the best I can
Like the days of open hand
To this moment I concede
How would you suggest that I proceed
When do you think that’ll be done
Staring directly at the sun
Jumping around from stone to stone
Pulling all the marrow from the bone
Walking through the forest after dark
Taking good aim but missing the mark
Seeing who I can outrun
When do you think that I’ll be done
Take me in and pull me under
Force my hand and make me wonder why I should even try to walk away
