It’s time to hit the road
She doesn’t live here anymore
So we’re gonna have to drive back home
We begged her not to fly away
We thought we’d found a truce
We tied the rope around the fence
But left the knot too loose

You have to admit it felt pretty good
To head back to the coast
We thought we might, we knew we could
And that’s what hurt the most
I never will forget those days
I hope you know that’s true
The supermarkets and cafes
As we were passing through

I mailed the check before we left
So the rent is paid through June
We might be in Tennessee
Some time this afternoon
If you look under the seat
I think you’ll find a map
I might need you to drive tonight
So you should take a nap

To deep in Arkansas
